The Temple of the Living God was first chartered by the Universal Spiritualist Association of Chesterfield, Indiana on September 25, 1960. The founders at that time drew the church's name from 2 Corinthians 6:16; "For ye are the temple of the living god; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people." In 1999 the church was subsequently incorporated in the state of Florida as an independent, Interfaith Metaphysical Community Church.
