Mission Statement The Temple of the Living God - a Safe Haven for Spiritural Growth THe mission of the Temple of the Living God is to assist people in their spiritual awakening and support them through education, healing, love, and service. History The church was founded on September 25, 1960. The Temple of the Living God of St. Petersburg, Inc., is an independent, non-denominational Interfaith Metaphysical Community Church that provides church services, educational classes, a prayer ministry, a bookstore, Psychic Fairs, workshops, seminars, conferences, Spiritual Retreats, fund-raising events, social activities, community outreach and other functions and activities that support the stated purposes of the organization. The founders drew the church's name from 2 Corinthians 6:16, "For ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people." Founding Principles In connecting with the Source (God) from which all beliefs derive, we are an interfaith, non-demoninational, New Thought Metaphysical Church, offering a positive and loving ministry. We respect and honor all religions. What our Mission Statement proposes, in the broadest context, is that we believe and affirm that each person's essential nature is holy, pure, and good. We believe that because we are each God's child, there are no favorites anywhere. We accept that a person is capable of becoming receptive to growth of their inner being, more aware of their inner nature, and that properly guided, aided and assisted, they can explore their "inner world," in a safe, nurturing, loving atmosphere which the Temple provides. We explore many facets of our nature - our creative abilitiy, our inner potential, our psychic (intuitive) awareness, and our capacity to renew and regenerate ourselves beyond what we have believed or thought to be true in the past as being possible or probable. We ultimately suggest that we are each responsible for ourselves and need to learn how to live in a harmonious fashion with ourselves and the world in which we live. Metaphysics Metaphysics is a word of Greek origin which means "beyond" or "after the physical." It was first used by Andronicus of Rhodes (c.70 BC) whose chief work was an arrangement of the writings of Aristotle in which he arbitrarily placed Aristotle's writings on spiritual matters directly after those which dealt with physical causation. The tern has since come to be used as a general description of any philosophy or teaching which believes in the essential spiritual origin of, and connection to all things material. Education Workshops We offer classes, seminars and workshops in the following areas: New Thought and Metaphysical Teachings Positive Living How to Improve Your Health Stress Reduction Spiritual Healing Yoga Meditation Inner Awareness Intuitive Development Overcoming Fear Limitations and Anxiety Responsible Sharing Basis Sometimes our church's programs and classes indicate "Admission Responsible Sharing Basis." Admission in these cases is determined by each individual's means and inner guidance. In this way, no one is denied admission and the proceeds are shared between the church and the leader or instructor. This form of "admission" provides a way to help each individual express the spiritual principle of Responsible Sharing.
